New Tricks
Hiding in extremely small spaces that I cannot fit into or pull him out of when it is time to change his diaper or get dressed. And if I can reach him, he lays as flat as possible and goes completely limp.
Knocking over his drink of water or soymilk INTENTIONALLY when I tell him "no" to something at the table. He also purposely kicked off his bowl of cereal when I put him back into his seat and he wanted to get in himself.
Aye.
Do They Groove?
Mason asked: "Do you use this at your Bible Study?
Me: Yep
Mason: Do they groove to it?
Me: What honey?
Mason: Do they groove to it, the music?
Me: They sure do.
What We've Been Up To
Just a few pictures to get us caught up. We've been having fun and not so fun times. These molars of Maddox's are awful on him. He has never teethed well, and now he is getting all four molars at once. He is in pain and cranky and clingy. My back is sore from holding him so much again. I feel awful for him and I am also frustrated. I pray these break through soon! He has been dealing with them for about a month now.
Here the boys are attempting to do the worm while listening to "Don't Rock the Boat" 80's version.
Mason figured this one out on his own. Nice. I'm a little concerned about college. :)

Mason dressed up Maddox. If that hat looks familiar, that's because it was the first attempt at an eagle head for Halloween.
I think everyone should ride a horse without pants while wearing a cowboy hat.He looks like a little elf in my slippers.
This was that awful night his face broke out and swelled. We still don't know for sure what caused it. Poor guy.
My Dad had given us this HUGE box for the kids to play with. Mason had friends over and it was a hit!
Mason and one of his very best friends. These 2 are like peas in a pod. I love seeing them together.
This little guy likes to hide back here so I cannot change him. See how he looks pretty pleased with himself. I really should have a video of me trying to get him out of these tight spots.
This was Maddox's favorite thing at the zoo. The sink.
Watching Mason and his friend slide down the hill at the Zoo's sledding party.

Mason grew this snake from those grow-animals in water. This one creeped me out. It was HUGE!!
Happy Chinese New Year!!

Maddox's dragon.

Galaxies

Mason uses this set up to tie up his stuffed animals and shoot at them with his Nerf Gun.
So that's what we've been up to. Monday we went to the Aquarium and yesterday we went to the Train Depot. With free passes!!! How great is that!!! I really want to purchase this ski pulk thing that allows you to snowshoe or cross country ski while pulling 1-2 children behind you. It is a lot of money, but I am beginning to think it will be worth my sanity. Maddox wants to be carried around in the snow (I don't blame him) so it would be perfect. Mason, Maddox and I could go snowshoeing and if Mason got tired he could sit in the sled with Maddox (although I would probably be listening to a lot of arguing) BUT I WOULD BE OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!! And right now that is what I need more than anything else!!! Soooo, trying to convince Craig he could also use it to carry his icefishing gear to make it a multi purpose item and one that we wouldn't outgrow. If he ever wanted to go winter camping, he could use it then too. So, that's that. We'll see.

no title
It's been a bit of a crazy day. This morning I found the hot water heater with steam coming out of the top as well as water. That resulted in a brand new oil fired hot water heater---they are way more expensive than electric ones...but thankfully we were able to get it installed today.
Ugh. We are having our bathroom completely remodeled starting next week or the week after. EVERYTHING is going to be torn out and replaced. It needs it!! The thing is falling apart and always smells funky (I put in a lavender airfreshner but it smells like Carmex). I am VERY excited for this!!! It is going to be beautiful and CLEAN!! And the tub will NOT be textured so I won't have to scrub it with all my might with a green scrubbie before Maddox's baths. YAY!
Craig and I were talking tonight and thought we may have to scale down the bathroom because of all these appliance repairs. Craig thought we may just use a galvanized tub for a bathtub. It will all work out.
Maddox has been staying up until around 10:00pm every night for about a week and Craig hasn't been getting home until 7:30-8:30 at night. Many nights I feel like I am losing my mind. I have been staying up until midnight, because it is the only time I have the house to myself. Craig is usually up until 11:00-11:30 and I do love his company, and I need some quiet, alone time to myself as well.
Ihave no idea why Maddox is doing this again. He has also had several nights when he has gotten up a few times. I am just resigning myself to the fact that I will not be getting any good consistent sleep until he is at least 4 years old.
The boy is hilarious though. And he has this great laugh he does when he thinks he is funny. (thought I just heard something in the heating vent. It better not be a mouse) And Mason has been so extremely sweet lately. He thinks everything is hilarious and just laughs hysterically at just about anything. We have been having a great time lately. I do love hanging out at home with these 2.
That doesn't mean I don't also have those moments/days when I am really, really, really crabby and impatient. I've been praying a lot about that, and it seems that I tend to get crabbiest when I feel the kids are "getting in the way" of something I am trying to accomplish. And I feel just awful even typing this down, but it's true. It's mainly a selfish and prideful thing that gets me so crabby. Not that I don't need time to recoup during the day or anything.
Well, I don't think this is making much sense. I think I should get to bed.
Oh yeah, Independent Lens in on PBS right now, and I am pretty sure they are hanging out with some Taliban and seeing how they set up to blow up American tanks. Yes, that is what is going on. Time to turn that off. Not sure how I feel about that....

I don't want to forget
Today,Maddox put unrolled half a roll of toilet paper and put it in the toilet.
Later in the day when he was given a "time out" he told me "I do kiet time" (translation: I do quiet time) and I said, "This is a time-out". He replied "No timeout! I do kiet time!"
Mason's definitions of the 3 Olympic medals:
Gold: You did a good job.
Silver: You did a pretty good job.
Bronze (he calls it brown): You tried your best, but you didn't win. But maybe you will next time. (I love this boy!!)
At the store Mason could have chosen a coloring book or activity book and he chose :Chicken Soup for the Soul Word Find. (again. I love this boy!)
Maddox loves using different voices when talking. He sings the Clean-Up song whenever he helps me clean up his toys.
Maddox usually sings about whatever he is doing "I runnin away", " I walkin", "I walkin on snow", "I eat sunbutto jelly wich" It's like living in a musical. (who couldn't love this boy?)
Mason is really into drawing right now and doing well.
All 3 of us sat down to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Mason made the Olympic circles to hang above the TV and gor out a red and green blanket for us to sit on. The boys put on "Uncle Sam" hats and we ate popcorn. It was a very sweet moment.
Mason is asleep on the couch nest to me right now. He really wants to see the cauldron lit and just couldn't keep his eyes open. I hope I can wake him up to see it. He is so excited for the Olympics and I was able to get a study for homeschool about the Olympics. So that has been fun.

Work
Iam grateful that Craig is employed.
I am grateful that I am able to stay home and homeschool Mason. I am extremely grateful for these 2 things. More than I could express.
And at the same time I wish that Craig worked a little less. He has been working 7:00-7:30 a.m. until 7:00-9:00 pm 6 nights a week. He's been doing this since the start of the New Year. I am with the children--alone--from the time they get up until bedtime. Many nights he comes home after the children are put to bed. It is becoming very exhausting and I find that I am getting short and impatient with the kids.
this work schedule will probably go on for a year. they are short several employees due to retirement, but they are not going to hire anyone else. So....the late hours and days.
Our little Maddox is in that "repeating" phase. The one where he repeats his question or statement over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over..etc.... He'll do it to me first, then do it to Mason. He has also begun the true tantrums. Running around in circles while stamping his feet and growling loudly. Throwing himself on his stomach and flailing his arms and legs while growling. Yep. He's been spending a lot of time in the playpen lately. And he doesn't mind doing these displays of frustration in public. I had to pull him out of a snowbank today.
This week has been good though. We have had things going on everyday this week in the morning. So we haven't been staring at each other's faces ALL day. Mason had 2 of his once a month homeschool classes this week. Next week I am working 1 half day and having my friend's girls over for the week. That will be a nice break and Mason and Maddox will be too excited to see the girls to fight with each other.
I am trying so hard to find other moms who homeschool to hang out with. I have met one and we are hoping to get together in a couple weeks and I've reconnected with another mom and we are going to try to get together with the kids sometime. I have joined a once a month book club (thank you again Kathy for inviting me! Such answer to prayer!) and a once a week Mother's Prayer group and I have the small group I lead one time a week. ---- Now that I have written this down, I am involved in quite a bit. I do long for more stuff in the day. Unstructured stuff where I just get together with other moms who have children the same age and we just talk and the kids play.
OK, I hope this doesn't sound like a "whine" post. I am not trying to be whiny. I feel like I haven't had many positive things to say on here in a while. Sorry for you 2-4 readers out there. There really are a lot of amazing things in my life. I think I have just been overwhelmed with Craig's work schedule. Well, off to check on Lily the Bear's web-den cam. The boys love it and it is pretty neat. signing off----

Defined
Man: You had to park here?!
Me: Silent and confused.
Man: Out of the entire parking lot you HAD to park behind my vehicle?! Really. How am I supposed to open my back door to put my stuff in?! You just had to park here?! You have the whole empty lot to choose from!
Me: (still confused) Well, it's a good parking spot.
Man: How am I supposed to open my door?! People! You just don't think about anything! WHY would you park here?!
He then preceded to open his door HARD and it hit the grill of our van. I heard a crunch and got right in there to see if there was any damage. (there wasn't. it was just the ice from his door) and he was able to put his stuff in his vehicle. A person could actually walk between our vehicles, so it's not like I was touching his bumper.
He continued on about me "just not thinking", etc.. I just stood there to make sure he didn't do anything to the van and as he got into his vehicle I said "Good day to you sir."---which probably wasn't helpful.
I felt fine during the incident, because I knew he was being ridiculous and I was willing to back the van up for him if he needed me to. But as I walked into Home Depot I started to feel terrible. As I drove home I started to cry and started thinking all these dumb thoughts "Maybe I don't pay enough attention to how close I park to other's cars" "Maybe I have caused problems for other people" "I am stupid" and on and on. I called Craig and just bawled. It was awful.
I really had to give it to God and remember who He says I am and not let this jerk define me. Which I was doing. How crazy is that?! I let some strange jerk start to define who I thought I was and what I believed about myself. Why would I let that happen? Thankfully I do know what God says about me and I can rest in that.
As the day went on I realized that none of this was my fault. If I know I am going to need to get into the back of my van, I make sure the backend is facing the driving aisle. As most people do.
And I realize that this man has some issues and some hurts, etc... And I should probably pray for him. But to be completely honest, as I drove home, I prayed that his day would be ruined. Then I got to thinking, if he treats a stranger like this, how does he treat family members? I should be praying for his wife (if he has one) and children (if he has any).
I was proud of myself though, because I didn't get angry during all of this. I was very peaceful. I did get a little anxious when he hit our grill with his door though.. I thought I was going to have to write his license plate down. But I didn't react with anger or sarcastic comments. Yay for me! God has made changes in me. And this incident has helped me see how easily I can let others define how I see myself. I thought I was getting better at that.
But the other thing is, he was just plain mean. And having someone be mean to me just plain hurts. No matter who they are. And that's OK that I feel that way. Nobody wants to be treated like dirt. I am grateful that Mason was not with, he would have been very confused and concerned about all that. Maddox was just looking at the snow.
and after all that, Home Depot didn't even have what I was looking for. :) I'll try Menards tomorrow. Hopefully that will be a more pleasant experience.

Our Lil' Turkey
He loves to sit in Mason's "junk box"
He also loves to rest, play, hide in small spaces. He often runs away from me when I need to change him and hides in a small space that is hard to pull him out of. Today he added a song "I runnin away. I runnin away" as he was running away.
He figures that if he can't see me when he has an object he shouldn't have, I can't see him.Saturday, February 6, 2010

Houdini
Me: Houdini?
Mason: Yeah! I am as good as him! He could get out of everything. Even a jacket on backwards!
I was wondering why it was taking him so long to get dressed.

Da Boys
Craig took Mason to Hoyt Lakes on Sunday and Maddox took over a 2 hour nap, so I had the house to myself for a couple hours. It was glorious. Was able to get laundry caught up and the house to look somewhat presentable.
Maddox hates the picture schedule now. Well, maybe "hate" is too strong a word, but when I mention it he yells "No sedul, no sedul". I've loosened up a bit on it, just making sure we eat and sleep at regular times and have a regular routine going.
He is pushing the envelope on everything though. Always trying to get away with something. Always pushing it, trying one more time. It's exhausting. i am not looking forward to the age of 3. :) He has such a strong will. i didn't know anyone so small could have that strong of a will.
Mason is doing well. I feel like he is the "calm" in all of this, however he is getting more energetic with time and hungrier. I can't fill that boy up. He is always hungry. I may have to go back to work just to feed him.
We were at Kohl's the other day and I was looking at the athletic wear (trying to get inspired to actually do something) and I hear Mason saying: "Wow mom. These are like real-life. How did they do that?" I turn to see him looking at a women's torso mannequin (no head, arms, or legs) with a shirt and shorts (shorts?! can you believe it?!) and rubbing his hands up and down it, marveling at how "life-like" it was. Not what I was expecting to see. yikes.
Then the other day i came downstairs to find Maddox near the basket of laundry. He was earnestly trying to put my bra on (padded at that) and when he saw me he held it up and said "Mom do. Help Mom." Nice. I told him only Mommies wear that and he said "OK", put it down and went on to the next activity.
A couple weeks ago, Mason went out with Nanni and I couldn't find Maddox. I kept calling his name, and he wouldn't respond (This is his new thing. He likes to hide and not say anything, and he is a GOOD hider). I finally looked in the closet in the toyroom and there he was, sitting on the floor in the dark holding Mason's magic trick set (something that Mason forbids Maddox to play with). The set is one of those cup sets with the little balls.
So Maddox is on the floor with a huge smile on his face with everything out on the floor around him. I told him we needed to pick it up and put it away, when all of a sudden he put 2 balls into his mouth, clammed his mouth shut and puffed up his cheeks! (These balls are made of foam and are extremely squishy. I can squish them flat.) Now he is just staring at me with these puffed up cheeks. We are in a standoff. I am terrified that he is going to swallow them, so I say something like "Can you spit them out like this?" and do something crazy and goofy. Thankfully he thought it was funny and he copied me. Little turkey.
2 days ago he was eating chips while I was on the phone with my Dad. All of a sudden he starts breaking them up and dropping them on the floor. I start picking up the pieces off the floor(with my free hand) and let him know he was done with his chips. The little stinker picks up 2 pieces I couldn't fit in my hand and starts smashing them into tiny crumbs. As I go after him, he quickly runs away while stuffing the rest of the crumbs in his mouth.---Granted I should have gotten off the phone as soon as he started breaking up the chips..but I was talking to my Dad about some important stuff and would correct Maddox.
These are the types of things he does all day. Exhausting. I'm pretty sure I am going to be completely grey by the end of this year.
Well, sorry no pictures. I put a bunch on Facebook just because it is faster to upload on there (thank you Kathy for that tip) It takes me forever on here.
