Bacon

Last night Maddox had some venison bacon (which is fabulous. and I cannot stand venison). He had eaten some last week and had done fine.

When he had finished his piece i noticed his face was hivey around his mouth, but chalked it up to the tomato slice he had eaten (he tends to break out from the high acid foods, even though he is not allergic. just that darn sensitive skin).

About a hour and a half later he was in his crib sneezing and sneezing and sneezing and was completely plugged up with his nose running all over. He needed Benadryl. He had an allergic reaction to the bacon. I am sure of it. He did not have any cold-like symptoms this morning and after the Benadryl he stopped sneezing.

Sometimes I just want to scream. A simple piece of bacon. I have no idea what was in it. I thought he would be fine, he was last week with it, however he didn't have a whole piece last week. It is soooooooo frustrating at times. Part of it is guilt--I fed him something he reacted to. Thankfully it wasn't a severe reaction, but it could have been.---Part of it is that I wish I didn't have to think so hard about what he eats. I always have to make sure I have a bunch of food packed if we go to anybody's house. And I know I am not the only dealing with this. Some of you have been doing this much longer than I have been and I applaud you. You are heros in my eyes.

Food just shouldn't have to be such a big deal. And if he didn't have that rare potato allergy, things could be soooo much easier. Pretty much everything that is gluten-free is made with potatoes. That means I have to handle wheat bread and wash my hands a zillion times a day and have other bread for me and keep them separated. Most of my day is spent thinking about food.

And I know I have so much more to be thankful for. At least all I have to think about is the food.

OK, I think it has been a while since I've ranted on this subject. Last night brought it all up for me. I felt so bad for him. We'll just have to lay off the venison bacon.
